Thinking Outside the Bocks: Brie and French Fries

Welcome Suds readers to another edition of Thinking Outside the Bocks. It’s Super Bowl Sunday so I’m going to give you a short but sweet twist on an old favorite everyone can enjoy at your Super Bowl party. Let’s get down to business…

You’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t enjoy a solid French fry. Whether they’re crinkle cut, wedges, or seasoned the French fry is a compliment to nearly any meal. The addition of cheese can take your fries to a whole different level. Therefore, I challenge you to think outside the bocks and try some Brie cheese fries and a Flossmoor Station IPA.

The melted Brie gives the salty fries a much more pungent taste. If you want to be extra daring with your cheese fries, I suggest adding some sautéed mushrooms to the mix. The mushrooms help add texture to the dish, as well as another buttery taste dimension. The Flossmoor Station IPA is very fruity (some apple, and citrus) to my taste, not as dry as say, Dogfish Head or Two Brothers Resistance. This fruity sweetness is a good contrasting flavor to the fries.

Hopefully you’ll enjoy this more decadent comfort food. Thanks for thinking out side the bocks, feel free to mix and match cheeses and get back to me with your best combination.
