The Art of Beer Cooking: Brats

If you are like me and can’t pass up a good brat here is an easy way to take it from a regular sausage to something amazing. You can use any beer you prefer. Dark beers such as Central Water’s Satin Solstice or O’so’s Night Train create a richer flavor.

2 teaspoons olive oil or butter

6 bratwurst sausages

1 large sweet onion, sliced into 1/4-inch rings

6 ounces beer

Heat 1 teaspoon of or butter in a large pan and brown your bratwurst until they are a deep golden brown. When they are done set them aside. To the same pan, add another 1 teaspoon olive oil or butter and the sweet onion. To get the perfect caramelized onion make sure you cook them on low heat for about 15 minutes stirring regularly. Add the bratwurst back to the pan with the onions and pour in your favorite beer. Cook over medium heat for about 12 to 15 minutes until the beer has cooked down to a syrup.

This is an easy, delicious way to add some flare to the regular bratwurst that we all know and love.
